Gates Ventures is the private office of Mr. Bill Gates. Our mission is to catalyze innovations that solve global problems and improve the lives of the world’s poorest people. We do this by incubating products, advocating for important causes, engaging with global organizations, and managing venture investments.
Exemplars in Global Health (“EGH”) is one of these new initiatives under incubation in partnership with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. We aim to adapt successful global health solutions to new contexts by conducting research and analysis to improve funding and policy decisions, both internally and externally. After three years of incubation, the program is slated for expansion and scale-up. Our goals are to produce high quality research and to use that research to drive improvements in how policymakers and funders deal with the most pressing global health challenges.
A successful candidate will manage the editorial process for EGH content across our work on topics including stunting reduction, child mortality exemplars, and neonatal mortality. He or she will oversee the production of the text and A/V (e.g., photo, data viz, video) elements of the Exemplar country narratives and topic overviews, starting with the transformation of research content into journalistic style writing and ending with final copyediting and deployment onto a web platform.
This role will involve (1) managing and constantly improving our editorial processes, including timelines, style guide and other guidelines, copyediting, and content review processes to ensure all content adheres to EGH guidelines and style; (2) managing our content strategy process, including organizing external feedback, and driving process for internal decisions and revision; (3) managing team of external writers and editors for EGH content and ensuring capacity and quality of engagements; and (4) working with global health research teams to guarantee that quantitative and qualitative data, including the core research, as well as supplementary content like annotations and responses to deeper questions, are being effectively represented in EGH content so that it can reach a broad audience. Ultimately, we seek to create a compelling product that will support policy makers, funders, advocates, and researchers to improve the quality of global health decisions.
