The Poynter Institute, one of the nation’s most respected journalism organizations, is searching for a creative Managing Editor and leader to direct and inspire a team of journalists, experts and faculty in producing one of the nation’s leading media news, information and training websites.
This position comes with a high level of authority and the creative freedom to make poynter.org a lively and relevant destination for those interested in media news and in the best practices of journalism.
As Managing Editor, you’ll be a collaborative partner, helping support the institute’s various digital teams, including the award-winning PolitiFact.com staff, the International Fact-Checking Network and Poynter’s expert journalists and faculty members. We seek a talented, entrepreneurial editor who can oversee media coverage and newsletters related to media and local news, digital tools, ethics, and fact-checking. The Managing Editor will also work closely with the talented producers who run Poynter’s News University, which is a leading online educator for journalists. The poynter.org staff will work in tandem with the NewsU team to produce timely stories and to promote training and classes that are relevant in today’s dynamic journalistic environment.
This is an exciting time at Poynter, and our Managing Editor will play a key leadership role in helping shape our vision of generating content that reflects our journalism expertise and appeals to practitioners, but is also accessible and relevant to citizens who are news consumers and care about the media as an essential component of democracy.
