After 22 years, the North Vernon Plain Dealer & Sun’s editor is retiring. These
two weekly community newspapers are now seeking a seasoned editor to oversee
coverage of the Jennings County, Indiana area. This position requires substantial
reporting responsibilities and fluency in digital and social media. Experience in
community journalism is a must. Solid reporting and editorial backgroundand, page layout and photography
skills needed as well as a commitment to local residents and the community.
The Plain Dealer & Sun is located in SE Indiana about 65 miles from Indianapolis,
Cincinnati and Louisville. The community offers extensive outdoor conservation resoutces, reasonably priced housing and good schools.
The editor will be in charge of the entire newsroom and will also be writing many of the articles, from breaking news to feature articles and editorials. The newspaper covers all of Jennings county and reports the full range of its activity: government, politics, business, education, events, sports and more. The editor will be responsible for shaping the news as an authoritative, independent voice of the community.
Produce the entire editorial content for our newspaper, which is published every Tuesday and Friday, as well as our news website.
Tell the continuing story of the community in an engaging way that captures our readers' interest.
Supervise and take lively photographs.
Become well-known in the community and build relationships for becoming a community leader.
B.A. in journalism or allied field.
Strong writing, editing, photography, and digital skills.
Experience in community journalism.
Commitment to county residents.
Experience managing other employees.
