Description:

22nd Century Media, an award-winning community media company that publishes 15 hyperlocal newspapers and websites, is looking for reliable and talented freelance reporters to cover the southwest suburbs.

Our coverage area is Orland Park, Tinley Park, New Lenox, Mokena, Frankfort, Lockport and Homer Glen.

Freelance reporters work directly with our editors to report the compelling and essential stories that make up our community newspapers. Currently, the southwest publications are looking for help covering stories that include:

• Local government (Village Board and commissions, School Board, etc.) meetings;

• Events such as parades, concerts, festivals and library programs; and

• Human-interest features and personality profiles of special community groups and individuals.

The publications also are seeking help in covering local sports — both games and features about athletes.

This is a pay-per-assignment position that requires journalism fundamentals, such as interviewing skills, unabated accuracy and adherence to deadline. The flexible position is ideal for any individual who wants to get his or her foot in the door or is looking to get more involved in their community.

Previous reporting experience is preferred. Photography skills a plus and can increase pay.
