The Malibu Surfside News, an award-winning weekly community newspaper, is looking for reliable and talented freelance reporters to cover news, features and sports in and related to Malibu.

Freelance reporters work directly with editors to report the compelling and essential stories that make up our community newspaper. Currently, the Surfside News is looking to bolster its freelance roster for coverage, including:

• Local government (City Council and commissions, School Board, etc.) meetings;

• Events such as parades, concerts, festivals and library programs; and

• Human-interest features and personality profiles of special community groups and individuals.

This is a pay-per-assignment position that requires journalism fundamentals, such as interviewing skills, unabated accuracy and adherence to deadline. The flexible position is ideal for any individual who wants to report meaningful stories to their community. The Surfside News is looking both for reporters local to Malibu, as well as those interested in features assignments.

Some sports assignments are also available. Previous reporting experience is preferred. Photography skills a plus and can increase pay.
