IndyStar, part of the Gannett Inc. and the USA TODAY NETWORK, is looking for a resourceful, motivated mid-shift public safety and breaking news reporter to join our award-winning newsroom. Indianapolis has experienced multiple years of record criminal homicide levels, despite city and community-led efforts to stem the violence. This reporter should be able to excel in a variety of roles, from reporting quickly and accurately from a scene to thoughtfully building sources and digging into the roots of violence in Central Indiana. This reporter should be able to effectively write for audiences on mobile devices, know their away around social media and be able to collaborate across teams. In addition to daily news, this reporter will develop enterprise projects and should not be afraid to bring big ideas to the table. This reporter also will contribute to our award-winning “The Toll” project, which examines the causes of violence in Indianapolis and the effect it has on our community.
