The Conversation US is looking for an inquisitive multimedia journalist who can generate stories that convey academics’ research and insights to the general public in a video form. We want a creative mind who embodies brave ideas, a strong work ethic and insatiable curiosity to boldly try new ways of engaging with the public through video on our website, through social media and with republishers. You’ll be part of a hard-working talented team driven by our mission to democratize knowledge and ensure evidence-based content is distributed widely to the public.
We want you to produce multimedia content - for other editors, for social media, to be embedded in stories and to live by itself on the web. Explore new forms of storytelling and dissemination to help inform the public.
What we want you to do
What you should send us?
Your resume, of course. But let us know why you want to work at The Conversation and send us a few videos you are proud of. Let us know if you have any ideas of stories you might envision chasing.
Who are we?
The Conversation US is a five-year old independent, non-profit media organization that publishes daily analysis and commentary authored by academics, edited by journalists and aimed at the general public. We publish 8-10 pieces of content a day that go on the AP wire and are republished in hundreds of news outlets each month, from the Washington Post to CNN to Fox News and hundreds of local newspapers.
The Conversation is deeply committed to diversity and inclusion and encourage members of traditionally-underrepresented groups – including those who are Black, Latino, Asian American, Native and LGBTQ – to join our team.
How do we do what we do?
Our team of 14 professional editors works with scholars from universities across the US to help them share their research and apply their expertise to topical issues. Instead of interviewing a scholar and creating content, our journalists help scholars produce evidence-based articles that go out on the AP wires and are published in hundreds of news outlets across the country and internationally each month.
What else you should know
This position reports to our deputy editor. We would like the position to be based in Boston or New York where we have offices and staff to show you the ropes. We offer generous benefits including three weeks of vacation.
