The Conversation US is looking for a dynamic, curious journalist with at least 2 years of experience who is eager to work with scholars to answer critical questions playing off the news each day with a particular focus on health and science.

This is a new position that requires an ability to generate ideas, react quickly and engage diplomatically with scholars to create explanatory journalism for the general public. Organizational skills and ability to multi-task are critical. If chosen, you’ll be part of a hard-working talented team driven by our mission to democratize knowledge for the public good and ensure evidence-based content is distributed widely to the public.

What we want you to do

What you should send us?

Your resume, of course. But let us know why you want to work at The Conversation and send us some clips to show you know how to write - along with any stories you’ve edited. Let us know if you have any ideas of stories you might envision chasing.

Who are we?

The Conversation US is a five-year old independent, non-profit media organization that publishes daily analysis and commentary authored by academics, edited by journalists and aimed at the general public. We publish 8-10 pieces of content a day that goes on the AP wire and is republished in hundreds of news outlets each month, from the Washington Post to CNN to Fox News and hundreds of local newspapers and outlets.

The Conversation is deeply committed to diversity and inclusion and encourage members of traditionally-underrepresented groups – including those who are Black, Latino, Asian American, Native and LGBTQ – to join our team.

How do we do what we do?

Our team of 14 professional editors works with scholars from universities across the US to help them share their research and apply their expertise to topical issues. Instead of having the journalist interview a scholar, we have a journalist in essence sit next to them and help them produce the most evidence-based article as possible that goes out on the AP wires as is published in hundreds of news outlets across the country and internationally each month.

 What else you should know

This position reports to our senior science editor. We would like the position to be based in Boston or New York where we have offices and staff to show you the ropes. We offer generous benefits including three weeks of vacation.
