HIAGO is looking for three investigative reporters in Santa Clara county to research each of the 80+ development projects active currently in the city of Mountain View, and write detailed investigative articles answering the “Who”, “What”, “Where”, “Why” for each and every active development/construction project in Mountain View. Each reporter will have to interview developers, neighborhood residents in surrounding areas, and city staff.
Ideal candidates will have a portfolio of articles that they have written related to local news, local politics, or local events. Candidates with extensive writing experience with community newspapers, or as journalists at print publications are preferred.
We are looking for at least 2 to 5 years of experience as a journalist doing original reporting. Local community reporting and writing in the Bay Area is a huge plus.
Stellar self-editing proficiency. While a team of editors will review your work prior to publication, we expect clean, typo-free copy.
Willingness to move fast, read fast, learn fast, and improve fast
While we prefer experienced journalists, recent college graduates with a solid amount of self motivation, writing ability, and related experience writing for school newspapers encouraged to apply.

They’ll evaluate the priorities of our target demographic before finding newsworthy statistics and occurrences to report. We need our investigative reporter to understand their subject matter from the inside out. They need to be accurate in the facts reported, but they also need to have the writing skills to keep people engaged in the pieces all the way to the end.
