Description:
THE CANINE REVIEW launched on November 20, 2019. We are a members-only, subscription-based magazine and news service for dog lovers. Our mission is to provide fair, complete, and unvarnished information related to dogs. We believe that caregivers and vendors devoted to treating dog owners and their loved ones professionally and fairly deserve a spotlight – as do those who operate outside those important boundaries.

The Canine Review provides quality, independent reporting and analysis on topics such as regulatory frameworks for different products affecting canines; business and policy enterprise reporting on pet health insurance, health services, and costs; law and policy debates centered on dogs such as breed specific legislation, the ACA, the ADA, travel, and real estate; deeply reported biz/policy reporting on the FDA/CVM and different dog food sub-topics such as grain-free diet. We are especially eager to find someone who loves to follow money trails, and has substantive reporting experience covering powerful people and institutions.

Here’s what makes us different: we do not take advertising; we have no conflicts of interest; and we have no agenda--apart from wanting to get the FACTS and provide a service to our readers.

Our readers are our only customers. We charge our readers for our journalism, which means we do not rely on sensational stories that produce “clicks” to attract advertisers. Our business is our credibility, not our popularity (or website traffic).

We conduct ourselves according to the highest standards of press ethics. We welcome any person who believes there is a factual error that warrants correction to email corrections@thecaninereview.com . Such emails will be reviewed expeditiously, and we will publish legitimate corrections as prominently as the story to which the correction pertained.

In addition to our reports, paying subscribers have exclusive access to a growing database of profiles on dog breeders as well as animal shelters across the country.

We are always looking for talented reporters who meet our standards to take profile assignments. These reporters are carefully selected and on-the-ground to visit any breeder or shelter they profile.

Write For TCR
For this work, TCR is recruiting and commissioning journalists with substantive reporting experience. You should be comfortable reporting on powerful people and institutions.

You should understand that TCR operates according to high standards of press ethics. A subject of a story or profile may not be happy with the outcome, but all subjects of TCR's reporting should be able to say that they were treated courteously and professionally; that they were quoted accurately and in context; and that they were treated fairly.

You need not have a background in animals or "pet writing" to join TCR’s team. Business and policy reporting experience is most preferred.

Please express interest to emily@thecaninereview.com in a cover letter, two story ideas and/or two recent writing samples, and feel free to attach your CV.
