The assistant politics and policy editor will help edit the many politics and policy stories that Texas Monthly publishes, with a focus on our online coverage.
Your primary duty will be making TexasMonthly.com a vibrant destination for coverage of the wild world of Texas politics and policy. TM is highly responsive to news and events of interest to Texans, but we don’t cover those developments in the manner of a newspaper or wire service. Our stories sort out what the latest developments mean, explore angles others have overlooked, and bring to life vivid characters and scenes.
Ideal candidates should be digitally fluent, literary-minded journalists who can juggle multiple assignments while maintaining high standards. Duties will run from story ideation and development to line-editing and SEO. Some writing may also be required. We employ both full-time writers and freelancers, so you will be expected to cultivate a reliable and diverse stable of writing talent. You will be expected to meet deadlines (and help others do the same).
This position will report directly to the politics and policy editor.
