We're seeking a full-time on-site copy editor for the ABA Journal, the flagship magazine of the American Bar Association. Copy editors would edit stories for the bimonthly print magazine as well as for ABAJournal.com. We want someone who has worked as a copy editor at a news publication and who has experience editing lengthy, data-heavy stories. A background in law and / or familiarity with the legal industry is a plus. Responsible for copyediting news stories that appear in the print ABA Journal and on ABAJournal.com with a primary focus on accuracy, style, content, readability, and consistency.
Principal Duties/Job Responsibilities
Editing and fact-checking news stories, headlines, subheads and photo captions. Formatting copy for the web in our content-management system. Identifying images for use with online news stories.Possibly writing articles for publication in the ABA Journal or on ABAJournal.com.
Basic Qualifications and Interests
Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
At least five years’ experience as an editor or writer in publishing environment.
Preferred Qualifications and Interests
Experience as a copy editor at a news publication.A background in law or a familiarity with the legal industry.
Experience editing lengthy, data-heavy news stories. Experience using InCopy /InDesign.
