The Powell Tribune in Powell, Wyoming, seeks a dedicated sports writer to join its staff immediately. Located near Yellowstone National Park, the Tribune is an independently owned, twice-weekly newspaper known for quality journalism. We’re looking for a candidate with strong writing and reporting skills, a knowledge of AP style and a passion for covering local sports. Photojournalism experience is a plus.
We've had a lot of interest in the position from journalists who apparently applied with the belief that they'd have the chance to cover big names and professional sports. The reality is that the Tribune is a hyper-local publication that focuses almost exclusively on athletes and events in our immediate area; the opportunities to cover famous athletes are few and far between. Instead, you'll have boundless opportunities to develop your own stories, cover just about every sport, dig into features and make a real mark on this community with your reporting.
The Tribune may be small, but we pride ourselves on consistently excellent journalism. Only those with a serious interest in relocating to Wyoming need apply.
Starting annual salary is $30,000 plus a health/benefits package and paid vacation. Send resume and clippings to General Manager Toby Bonner at firstname.lastname@example.org.
