Leadville’s Herald Democrat, an award-winning weekly newspaper in the Colorado Rockies, is looking for a general assignment reporter to join our small but dedicated team. Leadville, the highest incorporated city in the United States, is known for its outdoor recreation, mining heritage, Victorian charm and ultra-endurance races.
As the sole reporter for the Herald Democrat, the person hired must be an energetic individual who is able to do it all. Someone who can report the facts, tell stories, shoot photos and meet deadlines. Coverage areas include local government, crime, public lands, development, education, sports and more. We have a great appreciation for writers who are able to connect events and policy decisions to wider community issues.
You won’t get rich, the hours are long and the weather is often below freezing. Yet there is something about Leadville and the people who live here that has inspired the Herald Democrat to remain in business for 140 years. The office is closed on Wednesdays, opening up midweek powder days, backcountry adventures or trips to Denver. Leadville isn’t for everyone, but if it’s for you, you might just never leave.
Send a cover letter, resume and three published writing samples to editor@leadvilleherald.com. No phone calls, please.
