Monterey County Weekly is hiring a staff photographer. The ideal candidate must be passionate about visual storytelling and have a minimum of two years photojournalism experience. The job entails shooting breaking news for sure, but even more so requires coordination with the editorial team to bring back compelling images of everything from public meetings to food reviews, rock ‘n’ roll shows to community portraits. Additionally, feature writing, social media contributions, proofing and sundry department duties are also part of the job description.
Monterey County Weekly is a big fish in a beautiful pond. For the past 31 years the paper and its digital platforms have showcased a commitment to photography. Like the similar commitment to the newsroom, those investments have paid dividends in a paper that is regularly recognized as one of the best large weekies in California and that today dramatically out-circulates it’s Gannett and Digital First competitors.
