Seeking an ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT REPORTER
PublicSource, a nonprofit media outlet delivering public-service journalism in the Pittsburgh region, is looking for a reporter to focus on the policies and impact of development on residents and neighborhoods.
If you are a person interested in economic development issues, can develop sources, break down complex policies and analyze data while at the same time spot a great story and find creative ways to tell it, please apply.
The economic development beat will be a combination of breaking news reporting and longform/enterprise reporting. We need a reporter who has a track record of telling complex stories of different lengths, formats and media and making these stories memorable. The ideal candidate is able to turn around high-quality copy under a tight deadline while pursuing complex enterprise and investigative pieces.
Data analysis skills are preferred; experience with open record requests is also highly sought after.
We are looking for a go-to person who has a knack for explaining things, willing and able to adapt to an ever-changing media landscape in a small nonprofit newsroom. You will be expected to be in the know of what’s going on at the level of the local and state agencies driving development.
We offer a solid benefits package with paid time off, retirement contributions and a parental leave. Our newsroom has a collaborative work culture; from story ideas to fact-checking, we like people to pitch in, work hard and help each other out.
Please send your resume, cover letter with ideas and samples of your work to firstname.lastname@example.org by Nov. 30.
