EO Media Group seeks an energetic, creative, hard-working Editor to oversee The Observer and additional EOMG publications, plus offer regional collaboration in beautiful Northeast Oregon. This is not an entry-level position.
This is a golden opportunity to manage and mentor our newsroom employees as you set high editorial standards. This full-time management position requires an experienced journalist and a leader who is passionate about local news and excited about the opportunity to plan, develop and oversee content for The Observer and related publications through all communication channels — print, web, digital edition, eNewsletters, social media and special publications. This is a hands-on, working editor position who will edit and write stories and editorials, assist with breaking news coverage, take photos, post daily to our website and use social media to engage with our passionate readers.
The chosen candidate will assist with researching and developing story ideas pertinent to the region, edit all areas of our various platforms, collaborate with our design team and maintain a close working relationship with production and management as well as work closely with publishers to plan and execute further growth and assist with company-wide editorial initiatives. A successful editor will help our reporters uncover local stories, select stories for coverage and communicate with officials, sources and readers. Strong people skills and an ability to manage and motivate a team is a must, along with the ability and willingness to wear many hats, from high-level editorial strategies down to basic journalism and in-person community engagement. Our expectation is that you will set high editorial standards and motivate your team to produce compelling, accurate community journalism that wins followers and awards and makes a difference in our community.
