Examiner Media, the publisher of four weekly newspapers, is seeking to hire an energetic journalist with a strong sense of community to run one of our print editions. Despite the editor title and responsibilities, the position demands a high volume of reporting and writing. Coverage of local government is our bread and butter, so be prepared to attend municipal and school board meetings and press conferences but also just as ready to develop and cultivate sources for both routine stories and enterprise reporting. This position is for our Putnam County title, The Putnam Examiner, but be ready to work with the editorial staff from our three Westchester County papers as well, collaborating on what local stories might have regional appeal. Also, in helping to run production, your journalistic judgment is an essential part of the job when choosing story placement and when grappling with all the decisions -- large and small -- that go into running a local newspaper. While we place a premium on local political coverage, featuring the softer side of community news is also pivotal to our readers, and you should take just as much pride in attending a weekend parade as you do in developing your scoops. The ideal candidate is also social media savvy, takes solid photographs and is eager to break news on our website and in our email blast. Applicants should email resumes to Publisher Adam Stone at email@example.com and include five clips displaying your abilities in news and feature writing.
