The Dallas Morning News is in search of an engagement reporter for the Breaking News team, to handle our popular Curious Texas news project, as well as additional breaking news reporting.  

The ideal candidate will bring a special set of reporting and engagement skills to the dual role. First and foremost, we want a reporter who is eager to report on, write and engage with the public about Curious Texas questions.

In that role, this person’s primary job will be to own the Curious Texas reporting franchise, using digital tools to identify and engage new audiences for the project. Although embedded in the Breaking News team, the reporter will work hand in hand with the Audience team to experiment with new ways to connect and build those audience relationships.

 We seek a journalist who will help find and reach people actually affected by a story, get them to inform our work and to be a central player in the storytelling of the Curious Texas project.

 We're also seeking a reporter who is excited about innovating with us beyond Curious Texas, helping us to set ambitious audience goals and experimenting with new ways to connect and build relationships with audiences. 

 As a reporter on general breaking news coverage, this candidate will join a team that operates in a fast-paced environment. Breaking news reporters must synthesize information quickly and develop, write and present compelling articles for our engaged digital audience.

Candidates should have strong reporting and writing skills and be adept with social media. Applicants also should be knowledgeable about basic analytics; digital story building with links, tags and SEO; multimedia storytelling; and headline writing.
