The Acorn Newspapers is a group of five family-owned community weekly newspapers and a quarterly lifestyle magazine serving Ventura and Los Angeles counties.
We are seeking a full-time reporter to cover local government, K-12 education and other general assignments in Camarillo, Calif., a city of roughly 70,000. The reporter would work out of the Acorn's Camarillo location. We will consider all applications, but we are most interested in applicants who live in Southern California.
The candidate should be a self-starter with the ability to multitask and develop sources. Our reporters are independent and resourceful, can write both news and features, and regularly turn in seven to eight stories of varying lengths per week on deadline.
The ideal candidate:
Some night and weekend work is required to cover city council meetings or other community events. Prior journalism experience is a MUST. Community news reporting experience is a plus.
Photography, InDesign, WordPress and social media (Facebook, Twitter) experience is a plus.
Vacation, medical and 401K benefits are available.
Please email a resume and 2-3 published news clips (links OK) to camarillo@theacorn.com.
