Managing editor for afternoon daily
Our longtime managing editor is retiring and the Gallup Independent, a family-owned, 11,000 five-day afternoon daily newspaper is seeking a replacement.
We are looking for a proven leader and mentor to direct a staff of 14 talented journalists. The perfect candidate will be a writing coach and motivator, skilled in AP style, understand newspaper design and be familiar with modern investigative techniques. The managing editor acts as advisor and right-hand man to the publisher and mentor to the news staff.
Gallup, New Mexico, is a community of 22,000 in the heart of Indian Country with a large majority of our readers being Native American. Our newspaper reflects that cultural diversity through its coverage of the Navajo Nation, Pueblo of Zuni and Hispanic community in our area. The perfect candidate will embrace cultural diversity and demand it in the newsroom.
