About the role
You’ll be thinking creatively about how to sustain and grow Student Reporting Labs (SRL) work for the long run. An integral part of the team, you will work with leadership to figure out how to create new relationships with potential funders and cultivate current ones. You will use your exemplary organization and writing skills to document and communicate SRL successes and ensure funding reports are accurate and submitted on time.
Your first 90 days
You’ll get to know your team and the wider organization, and how each group functions independently as well as part of the whole. You’ll learn about our funders and strategize how to approach new funders - local, national and international. You’ll earn the leadership team’s trust to be a spokesperson for the SRL project. You will learn about the public broadcasting system, talk with station partners about best practices for promoting their Student Reporting Labs work. You will contribute to a sustainability plan that includes individual donors, public and private foundations, sponsorships and other funding mechanisms. You will be writing and submitting proposals.
What success looks like
You thrive in a start-up like atmosphere, bringing vibrancy and terrific ideas to meetings. You’ve connected with not only the SRL team, but with others throughout the NewsHour, as well as the student media, public broadcasting and education fields. You’ve earned trust and are commended for your ability to communicate the importance of student voice and journalism. You have built relationships to get the job done. You’ve secured funding for Student Reporting Labs and have a great rapport with funders.
