The Wisconsin State Journal is seeking a full-time Copy Editor/Digital Producer for our universal night copy desk. Candidates must be able, under deadline pressure, to sharply edit stories, write engaging headlines and keep our website fresh with the latest news. The ideal candidate will embrace the dual role of excellent website management and producing "the perfect paper" every night. Three to five years’ experience at a daily newspaper is preferred, but versatility and a drive to excel go a long way. If you’re ready to join a veteran, award-winning team of editors, reporters, photographers and web producers, we want to hear from you.
In addition to a high degree of enthusiasm for the field of journalism and a strong desire to learn, the ideal applicant needs to have basic knowledge of libel law and AP Style, above-average ability in spelling and grammar, a broad knowledge of national and international news, and the ability to do excellent work under deadline pressure. While the position is more focused on news, having a good knowledge of sports is a plus.
Typical hours for this position are 4-11:30 p.m. Days of the week will vary, and will include some weekends and some holidays; however, strong efforts are made to accommodate scheduling requests. This is a full-time, non-exempt position.
To be considered for the position, applicants must apply online at https://app.jobvite.com/j?cj=oNwPafw2&s=Journalism_Jobs . Please include links to 5-10 examples of editing, headline and roundup/compilation/writing clips in your cover letter. The deadline to apply is Friday, August 30th.
