The Havre Daily News is seeking a full-time news photographer to work in the remote and beautiful Hi-Line of northern Montana.
The ideal candidate will be a skilled photographer with a wide array of journalistic skills who can assist in writing stories, creating video, copy editing and managing social media when necessary. Strong news judgement and the ability to provide accurate and pertinent information along with quality images is a must.
The right photographer will be an independent worker with a passion for news who can expect to work on an array of stories including community events, breaking news, features and a small amount of sports. We employ a full-time sports photographer, so the emphasis for this position is editorial work.
Working at a small paper with a strong emphasis on hyper-local news demands a flexible schedule that will include nights, weekends and holidays, but we understand the importance of providing days off.
Havre is a small town of about 10,000 located 40 miles south of the Canadian border. It is the seat of Hill County and the largest town in a 100-mile radius. We are located just north of the Bear Paw Mountains which contain excellent recreational opportunities year-round, and three hours to the west lies world-renowned Glacier National Park.
Photographers with lengthy experience are welcome, and this position also has acted as an excellent starting point for many photojournalists, and we are excited to take on a quality candidate beginning their career in news photography. One to two years of experience at a newspaper is preferred, but qualified college graduates with internship experience will be considered.
We offer a comprehensive benefit package including medical, 401K, paid holidays and vacation.
Please send a letter, resume, references and links to your portfolio showing a variety of breaking news, sports, feature photos and project work to managing editor Tim Leeds at firstname.lastname@example.org
