Job Status Full-time

The Jewish Advocate, the oldest continuously published English-language Jewish weekly in the U.S., has covered the cultural, social, religious, political and economic events and trends of the Jewish community and its institutions since 1902.  We strive to advocate for Jews here and abroad while maintianing our journalistic detachment and integrity.

We have an immediate opening for a full-time news reporter and community editor.  Responsibilities include developing and writing several hard news stories per week; composing our community events and calendar pages; moderate copyediting and proofreading; and participating in the layout and design process, including writing headlines and generating art for stories.

The ideal candidate will be an enterprising reporter, able to conceive story ideas and ask penetrating and pointed questions; a crackerjack news writer, able to produce compelling stories on deadline, as well as being able to turn around late breaking stories in a few hours; and a knowledgeable editor, able to file AP style- and letter-perfect copy.

For this position, a candidate's enthusiasm and a fervent desire to serve the Jewish community are as valuable as professional experience.  Skills and interest in multiplatform storytelling are a plus.  Familiarity with the local and regional Jewish community is helpful but not essential.  Base salary plus benefits.
