The Keene Sentinel – an independent, family-owned news organization serving southwestern New Hampshire – seeks an executive editor to head its newsroom and join its management leadership team. The Sentinel publishes news throughout the week on its various digital platforms as well as in its six-day print newspaper (weekday afternoons and Saturday morning weekend edition), and the ideal candidate must have a track record of journalistic excellence and be excited by the opportunities and challenges in today’s community journalism environment. This person will also be highly collaborative with staff and other departments and have an ability to develop long-term newsroom objectives as well as address day-to-day news needs and challenges. The role will also require the executive editor to be out in the community as the public face of The Sentinel’s news operation, including occasional public speaking, and to be comfortable dealing with public officials, including presidential primary candidates, as well as interacting effectively with readers and other members of the public.
The preferred candidate will have experience in news management and editing, demonstrated leadership ability, strong organizational and communication skills and an ability to be flexible and work under pressure. The person must also be comfortable with content management systems and other newsroom software, and familiarity with BLOX and InDesign is a plus.
The executive editor is a full-time, salaried position and reports directly to the publisher.
The Sentinel is an equal opportunity employer and offers a competitive salary, a comprehensive benefits package and an excellent working environment.
