We’re looking for a political junkie.
The California Globe has an immediate opening for a full-time political reporter to cover the exciting world of state politics in California.
Our ideal candidate is someone who stayed up until 1AM watching special election results and then spent another hour online looking for even more information.
Exceptional writing skills are required, as well as an understanding of politics as a spectator sport. Applicant must have the ability to craft meaningful and digestible stories from the sometimes arcane world of policy and legislation, as well as a real feel for the theater and pageantry of politics..
We’re looking for accuracy, speed, a willingness to explore every nook and cranny of California in pursuit of the truth–and to tell a great story.
The ability to forge solid, trusting, two-sided relationships with public officials, party leaders, campaign staff and other sources is of great importance – as is the ability to cast your own views aside and look at every story with objectivity. California politics demands a strong will and a good sense of humor.
Reporters are expected to work peculiar hours with an ability to shift their day quickly depending on breaking news. We want you to attend political events not because you must, but because you wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. And the right applicant will value campaigns and elections as much as governing.
To apply, e-mail your cover letter, resume and clips to firstname.lastname@example.org.
It is not mandatory that you live in Sacramento.
The Californa Globe is a non-partisan, non-ideological political news site with a laser focus on state and local politics process stories. We offer a competitive salary and benefits package. We are an equal opportunity employer.
