The Western News in Libby, Montana is hiring a full-time general assignment reporter with experience covering sports. This reporter will cover a wide-range of hard-hitting issues in Lincoln County on a beat that includes a bustling courthouse, environmental and wildlife management, high school sports and a local economy in transition from the state’s historic mainstays of logging and mining. This individual is expected to turn in well-reported articles on quick deadlines, identify and pitch story ideas, and assist with pagination. The position is ideal for an individual with a passion for providing news, features and sports for a vibrant and close-knit community.
Libby, and Lincoln County, by extension, is a frontier community in northwest Montana, home to the scenic Cabinet Mountains, miles of trails for hiking, and many lakes and rivers for fishing, boating and swimming. The county boasts a community ski area and is within driving distance of several well-known resorts.
