Stars and Stripes, the independent daily news organization for the U.S. military, is looking for contract producers for a second season of a podcast on issues of interest to the US military and security community. The freedom to report on the military without interference from within or without has made Stars and Stripes an award-winning source of news and information to the military since World War II. The successful applicants would be part of a two-member collaborative team working in Washington D.C. As required they would be expected to collaborate with Stars and Stripes editors, reporters and producers in the United States and at key locations overseas. Some travel, including international, could be required. The expected range for a successful candidate is $70,000 to $75,000.
We are seeking producers with:
Reliably excellent editorial judgment and a demonstrated commitment to accuracy and journalism standards.
A demonstrated ability and commitment to working collegially as a team and with supervisors
A track record of excellent reporting and writing skills
Interviewing skills and the ability to draw guests into interesting on-air conversation
An up-to-date understanding of trends in audio journalism
Ability to organize work flow with specific deadlines for posting of episodes
Knowledgeable about the audio editing process. .
Strong coaching skills and a track record of creative collaboration
Know, experience and expertise - Would have at least three years of experience, some on-air experience and some experience with creating and launching podcasts. The major responsibilities and duties include:
Pitching story ideas, researching, writing, reporting and recording
Working with senior editors to develop ideas for the podcast episodes
Managing the timeline and production on multiple projects
Editing and mixing audio from scripts and preparing podcasts for publishing
Overseeing studio recording sessions,
Gathering sound and conducting interviews in the field as required
Books, engineers, conducts, records/syncs in-studio interviews
