Seeking versatile sports reporter
The Daily Hampshire Gazette seeks a versatile, full-time sports reporter eager to cover Hampshire County high school sports online and in print. The sports staff at the Gazette covers 13 high schools, two prep schools and four colleges, including Division I University of Massachusetts Amherst.
The successful candidate will possess a healthy spirit of competition and be motivated to chase newsy stories as well as features and deliver on daily deadlines. A willingness to write beyond the box score, a proficiency in multimedia platforms and social media, and a knowledge of AP Style are also key. The position includes some design and copy-editing duties.
The Gazette is one of the nation’s oldest and feistiest local news operations. Founded in 1786, it was named New England Newspaper of the Year in its circulation class for print and web in 2015 and 2017. As we move to a web-first model of breaking news coverage, digital skills and sensibility are a must.
