HorseRacingNation.com is seeking an assistant editor for its growing online news operation in Louisville, Ky., home of Churchill Downs and the Kentucky Derby.
Editors at HRN are responsible for contributing to all aspects of news gathering, reporting, social media and other essential functions of the website. This position reports directly to the editor-in-chief.
Experience covering horse racing or sports writing is preferred, but all talented journalists are welcome to apply. Early morning, night and weekend hours should all be expected given the subject matter.
The ideal candidate is conditioned to working under constant deadlines in a fast-paced news environment. He or she can multitask well, shows sharp attention to detail and possesses a drive to write and report on topics that grow readership.
Requirements include knowledge of AP style, ability to work independently and astute news judgment. Prior social media management and video production — both in front of and behind the camera — help.
To apply, email a cover letter detailing why you’re the best person for the job along with a resume and clips that showcase a variety of story types to HRN editor-in-chief Jonathan Lintner at email@example.com.
