Community Media Group, a rapidly growing print and digital media company headquartered in Chicago, is seeking an assistant editor for Community Health Magazine, its burgeoning division of customized health and wellness magazines. Duties of the position to be filled include but are not limited to story development, assigning stories to writers, writing/editing, proofreading, copy editing, digital content management, project management, and otherwise assisting with the production of highly customized magazines and distribution of our numerous publications' associated content.
Qualified candidates hold a degree in journalism, communications or English and have no less than two-years' experience in an editorial role at a college or professional publication. The ideal candidate has spent time as a writer and editor; is versed in AP style; is self-motivated yet willing to learn and take direction; can work both individually and in a team environment; has impeccable organization skills; and has complete command of the English language. Knowledge in the fields of medicine, fitness, nutrition, and general physical and mental wellness is desirable. Experience with website administration and social media management in a professional setting, and working with InDesign and video production is valuable, but not essential.
The assistant editor position entails heavy reading and editing; working with multiple publications simultaneously in a fast-paced environment; meeting deadlines; and communicating with writers, contributors and clients.
