Are you looking for the challenge of designing captivating news pages, writing catchy headlines, and ensuring accuracy for an award-winning newspaper? Then the Butler Eagle is looking for you.
The Eagle, a 20,000+ daily circulation newspaper in beautiful, vibrant western Pennsylvania, has an immediate opening for an eager, experienced page designer and copy editor to join our night team.
The ideal candidate must be a self-starter with a creative eye for design who can edit copy on tight deadlines. This position works closely with news editors, reporters and photographers to design visually appealing printed news pages.
A strong sense of AP style and a command for the English language is a must as responsibilities include serving as the final set of editing eyes for a variety of different stories for the Eagle’s daily and weekly newspapers, as well as our monthly business magazine. In addition to ensuring accuracy and clarity, we are looking for a wordsmith who can write eye-catching headlines.
Solid news judgment and the ability to work calmly under deadline pressures are also key ingredients for the ideal candidates. Our newspaper is a reflection of our community and our team tells that community’s story daily through its daily page designs.
Previous newsroom experience is a must, as well as demonstrated proficiency with Adobe InCopy and InDesign. Experience with MediaWare a plus. This is a night position with a 3-11 p.m. shift.
Interested applications should send a cover letter, resume and page design samples (no larger than 30MB) to Andie Hannon, managing editor, email@example.com.
