The San Diego Union-Tribune is seeking a reporter to cover communities in California’s oldest and second-largest city. We’re looking for provocative and insightful coverage of grass-roots issues in neighborhoods stretching from San Ysidro to Rancho Bernardo. This reporter will work with highly productive colleagues on the government and education beats to tell stories in multiple formats. Key qualifications include curiosity, energy, a critical mind and the ability to produce quality journalism.

Responsibilities include:

·        Researching and writing for multiple platforms (print, online, mobile) producing stories, blog posts or tweets

·        Writing and filing reports or visual elements from news events using a mobile device

·        Interacting with readers and responding appropriately to their comments

·        Working with other reporters and editors to support larger enterprise news pieces

Requirements/qualifications include:

·        Bachelor’s degree in journalism and three years of writing experience for community, online or regional news entities in a professional capacity

·        Solid grasp of proper grammar, spelling, punctuation and AP style

·        Knowledge of libel laws and adherence to the Union-Tribune’s ethics guidelines
