Description:

The Tompkins Weekly is seeking an Editor.  In addition to Editor duties, you will also be the primary local news and feature reporter for the newspaper.  

You will write a monthly column called "Thinking Ahead" that focuses on maturing lifestyles. 


Other duties include: 
Edit submitted pieces from freelance writers and columnists. 

Find, take, or work with freelance writers/columnists/photographers to secure photos for stories/columns.

Edit photos for print.

Edit ad layout to make sure it meets all space needs are met for ads, puzzles, Real Estate transactions, etc.

Responsible for the weekly calendar including stock/provided/file photos

Responsible for layout and files submitted to printer weekly.

Upload all stories and columns to publish on the website.

Optimize viewing experience each week with new stories.

Street Beat - We ask, you tell.

Radio script readied promoting top stories.

Communicate in person and electronically of projected stories, and other general related topics.

Send proof layout in advance for staff review two days prior to print.

Manage freelance budget for writers, columnists and photographers. Communicate with freelancers/photographers for accuracy.

Update and post to social media accounts and monitor account activity (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram).

Columns/stories: Signs of Sustainability, Democratic View, Republican View, East Hill Notes, Trumansburg Connection, Lansing at Large, Groton on the Inside, Food for Thought, Local Sports, with others planned.
