Performs teaching duties in area(s) of expertise.  Distinguished Lecturers are experienced practitioners or teachers who hold full-time, non-tenure track position with a maximum appointment period of seven years, subject to annual reappointment.

The Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY, founded in 2006, has become nationally recognized for its innovative programs. The only public graduate journalism school in the northeastern U.S., it prepares students from diverse economic, racial, and cultural backgrounds to produce high-quality journalism. As the profession rapidly reinvents itself for the digital age, the Newmark J-School is at the forefront of equipping the next generation of journalists with the tools to find stories and tell them effectively - using print, broadcast, visual, interactive, and social media. The school offers two master's degree programs: a Master of Arts in Journalism and the nation's first M.A. in Social Journalism.

The Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY seeks candidates for a Distinguished Lecturer position. Reporting to the Associate Dean, the incumbent will serve as the head of Audio Journalism, beginning in Fall 2019. This is a full-time, non-tenure track faculty position.

Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Oversees the curriculum for the courses in the concentration; updates them on an ongoing basis to ensure that they reflect the latest trends in the industry;
- Recruits and oversees a knowledgeable, diverse group of professors to teach courses; ensures that students’ learning experience is of the highest quality;
- Develops and maintains an active portfolio of innovative journalism projects;
- Provides strong mentoring to students;
- Participates actively in public and professional service; participates in service related to the life of the School;
- Promotes the concentration with prospective and current students;
- Engages in a practical, hands-on program of teaching; 
- Maintains active ties to working professionals in support of guest speakers and publishing opportunities for student work;
- Conceives and hosts events in support of the concentration;
- Develops contacts with employers to assist the Career Services office in identifying relevant internship and employment opportunities; 
- Maintains contacts with alumni from the concentration;
- Maintains the content on the School’s website that describes and promotes the area;
- Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and a record of achievement in a profession or field of expertise related to teaching assignments.  Also required is the ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

A preferred candidate should have:
- Ten (10) years of professional journalism experience working in various audio formats and demonstrated commitment to reporting from a variety of perspectives.
- Evidence of teaching experience and ability to use and teach industry standard audio recording equipment.
- Proven record of producing audio, radio, and multimedia stories.
- Strong belief in informing, engaging, and fostering communities.
- Ability to explore new forms of audio storytelling.
- Possess skills that are current and competitive as the news industry rapidly changes.
- Expert knowledge of industry standard audio editing software and excellent grasp of audio capture.
- Evidence of a clear agenda for continued journalistic work.
- Demonstrated record of cultural competency.
- Brings enthusiasm and strong pedagogy to teaching.
