The web editor will review articles and news content across Adweek.com, editing stories for style, tone and structure, acting as a gatekeeper for the site and giving every story the best chance to succeed across platforms. The position requires a proven skill at headline writing and rapid, detail-oriented editing with a specific focus on digital news and story packaging as well as a track record of working with writers to improve, fine-tune and rework stories. Knowledge of digital newsroom workflow, including social media, and web production are essential. This is a full-time job working in our New York office.

Responsibilities:

  • Editing daily news and analysis articles, photo captions, video descriptions, social media postings, Adweek.com promotional materials and other editorial content
  • Ensuring all content published on the site adheres to Adweek Style and AP Style, and making judgments on grammar, phrasing and punctuation
  • Writing compelling, web- and social-friendly headlines consistent with Adweek's voice and workshopping headlines with writers and other editors
  • Working closely with reporters and the web art and video teams on digital packaging
  • Working closely with and sometimes backing up Adweek's social media editor
  • Repackaging print articles for the web, reviewing formatting changes, art usage, clarity and web headlines
  • Using analytics to make data-driven editorial decisions
  • Managing Adweek’s daily news budget

Requirements:

  • At least 3-5 years of digital journalism experience with a specific focus on editing stories and site management for a business or news website
  • Extensive experience working with reporters on stories, from pitch to publication
  • Extensive experience with Wordpress or similar content management systems
  • High-level proficiency in AP Style, grammar and narrative storytelling
  • Strong familiarity with Parse.ly, Chartbeat or other content analytics platforms
  • Bachelor's degree in journalism
  • Experience working in or covering brand marketing, advertising, tech or related fields a plus
