Description:

We're looking for a creative, driven, and experienced Investigative Reporter to join our growing editorial team. This is a full-time, in-house position that will report to the Managing Director of Content in our Baltimore, Maryland office.

About This Role:

The right candidate is a voracious reader with a skeptical, contrarian point of view, who has a nose for what's going on in the business world and likes to get to the bottom of the story. We're looking for an excellent communicator who knows how to research complex ideas and tell stories in a powerful, unforgettable, and concise way.

We want someone who's willing to put his/her boots on the ground: attend conferences... interview industry leaders... tackle big projects... help us be the first to break a big story... and write research papers, special reports, and feature articles to bring these stories to our readers.

The Investigative Reporter must be able to cover a wide range of topics... One week, you may be flying out to Silicon Valley to sniff out the details behind the next big game-changing technology... the next, you may be riding shotgun with a local repo man. We want someone who's not afraid of a challenge, isn't afraid to talk to strangers, and likes to roll his/her sleeves up and get dirty from time to time.

Though we're a publisher of investment research, a background in finance is not required. If you're curious, ambitious, and a good writer, we want to hear from you.

Responsibilities and Opportunities:

  • Research and write compelling editorial content on breaking stories, emerging technologies, and a wide range of other topics
  • Multitask with several major projects at once
  • Travel as needed to develop a rolodex of reliable sources who are willing to speak on the record
  • Tackle special projects and keep a mindset of going above and beyond to help the team succeed
  • Contribute story ideas and editorial content as assigned by editorial directors
  • Present complex ideas in an accurate, unbiased, concise mindset

Requirements and Preferred Qualities:

  • Minimum three years of investigative or news reporting experience at a daily newspaper or credible news outlet
  • High degree of curiosity and creativity
  • Knowledge of current events and an ability to track and be prepared to respond to breaking news
  • Excellent writing and organizational skills and a desire to take initiative and receive constructive feedback
  • Sound demonstration of editorial judgment, a commitment to journalistic ethics, and a sharp eye for accuracy and detail
  • Ability to manage various projects simultaneously and work occasional extended or "off" hours in connection with events and new developments
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and network with industry sources
  • Willingness to travel and be on site for events

If interested, please send your résumé and cover letter to editorialcareers@stansberryresearch.com with the subject line "Investigative Reporter."
