Description:

Concealed Carry Magazine is seeking experienced freelance investigative journalists to undertake extensive enterprise reporting projects.

This is not your grandfather’s gun rag. As the thought leader in this space, Concealed Carry Magazine reaches more than 300,000 readers with every issue. We are one of the fastest-growing magazines in our industry because we step away from convention. We are looking for writers who are willing to do the same.

Yes, we are published by a self-defense-advocacy organization — the United States Concealed Carry Association — but we have complete editorial autonomy and actively pursue stories that other outlets overlook or ignore. We provide in-depth, accurate and unrivaled information about the legal, ethical, moral, psychological and physiological aspects of self-defense. To put it simply, we provide our readers with content they cannot find anywhere else.

Qualified candidates will be organized and self-motivated reporters with instincts for finding powerful stories and the tenacity to chase them. They must be skilled writers and interviewers with passions for unearthing facts, deciphering complex issues and telling “the stories behind the story.” The assignments will require extensive source-building, data investigation, fact-checking and critical thinking. Candidates should be able to translate facts and figures, connect them to personal narratives, and give them context in creative and compelling copy. They also must be able to balance the autonomy of prolonged freelance reporting projects with the obligation to give regular updates to editors and the necessity to juggle short- and long-term deadlines. Travel will be required, and approved expenses will be covered by the company.

If you are interested in pursuing this one-of-a-kind opportunity, please email three to five clips along with a cover letter detailing your relevant experience and what excites you about this project to jared[at]uscca[dot]com.
