The Forward is seeking an experienced and creative Audience Development Editor to create content and to ensure that readers encounter our stories across current and emerging digital platforms (newsletters, social media, and more), engage with our unique brand of journalism, and help us find new audiences. The Forward delivers incisive coverage of the people, issues, ideas and institutions that matter to the American Jewish landscape in an expanding digital operation that is attracting a growing audience every day.

If this is the job for you, you should be at the forefront of audience development trends and best practices — ensuring that the Forward is an early presence on new social platforms, proactively building relationships with key platforms, and bringing insights to the organization to ensure that we’re reacting to platform changes.

Primary Responsibilities: 
- Oversee the creation, production and story placement of the Forward’s email newsletters: Craft and implement a newsletter strategy to drive reader engagement, site traffic, user loyalty, subscription and retention. 
- Lead the Forward’s efforts on social media: Grow our social audience, test engagement strategies, design and optimize content for social, and lead paid social media campaigns. 
- Help the Forward reach new audiences, using both new and legacy content. 
- Develop and cultivate partnerships with platforms and publishers, including Apple News and Flipboard. 

Desired Skills & Qualifications 
- Knowledge of email best practices, and a background in optimizing newsletters and growing audience via email. 
- A strong understanding of social media platforms and trends and a proven track record of scaling those platforms. 
- Excellent writing skills are a must. A background in journalism is preferred. 
- Experience with Google Analytics is a plus. 
- Some familiarity with SEO optimization is a plus, but not necessary. 
- The ability to adapt to new trends and responsibilities.
