The Laredo Morning Times is seeking a full-time web producer/reporter. 

LMT, a daily newspaper owned by Hearst Corp. serving the Laredo, Texas area, has a population of more than 260,000. It’s ranked one of the fastest growing cities in the nation since the recession.

POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for updating the website and helping to report news -- everything from quick-hit local stories to breaking news and enterprise reports for LMTonline.com with the goal of increasing user interactivity, subscriptions and traffic, particularly among local readers.


  • Curate and aggregate a steady stream of interesting content that is packaged and promoted in a way that generates engagement.
  • Monitor all forms of media (print, TV, digital, blogs and social) and be the first to report breaking news stories and always on the hunt for exclusive and or trending content that will drive traffic.
  • Excellent at writing headlines that grow audience and engagement, and packaging content that grows page views per visitor and time on site.
  • Understand different ways to tell a story.
  • Evaluate website traffic trends in an effort to make decisions on both daily content and longer term content development that will grow local traffic.
  • Develop user-generated content – from comments, blogs and forums to photos and video – to create interactive digital packages that can be promoted in print and digital media.
  • Promote and distribute news content on social media.
  • Build positive working relationships with newsroom staff and management, work collaboratively on enterprise content, and creating opportunities to market web content in print.


  • Experience in digital media and journalism.
  • Clever headline writer.
  • Capable of researching, interviewing and writing original news articles.
  • Knowledge of AP Style.
  • Enjoys working in teams and has excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ease with/ability to learn new technology independently and quickly.
  • Thrives under pressure.
  • Some schedule flexibility (nights, weekends).
  • Some driving and travel.
  • Proficiency in MS Office; HTML, CSS and Photoshop experience a plus.
