Description:

Interested in adventure? The Kodiak Daily Mirror, a Monday-Friday newspaper on Alaska's Emerald Isle, has an immediate opening for a general assignment reporter.

The Kodiak Daily Mirror is intensely local, but writers have the freedom to pursue stories with links to state and national issues. You might cover a Coast Guard medevac one day, a city council meeting the next, and then a rocket launch from the Pacific Spaceport Complex Alaska. In addition to daily news items, reporters will be given the time to develop more in-depth, long-form stories.

Reporters at the Kodiak Daily Mirror have daily front-page exposure and an unusual degree of freedom to pursue stories and take their own photos.

Kodiak Island is the second-largest island in the United States and boasts the third-largest commercial fishing port in the nation. Kodiak is home to the country’s largest Coast Guard base.

Kodiak’s climate is temperate, wet and green in summer. Outdoor recreation opportunities are limitless: hiking, fishing, biking, kayaking, hunting, surfing, diving and camping — the list goes on. Summer days are long, the salmon is fresh and the people are friendly.
