The Washington Examiner is looking for a dynamic and inspiring editor to lead our reporters. A very strong news background and an extensive knowledge of how American politics works is essential. Detailed knowledge of Congress is a major advantage.

This person should be able to look at each day and develop a plan for how to deliver politics and policy stories to our readers. Ideally, the editor should understand the big issues facing Congress, know how to plan coverage of key votes and hearings, and direct stories about the people and politics that shape the Hill.

They will work closely with our politics and policy reporters each day, and will be based in our D.C. office. An ability to shift between work on breaking news - where speed is crucial - and enterprise stories is a must.

We're looking for someone with experience directing reporters, ideally on Capitol Hill, and getting results with straight, high-impact news stories. If you're going to edit reporters, you need to be a great writer yourself.

The Examiner is driving record traffic to its website — we want you to help drive more — and is an exciting and vibrant place to work. We are expanding our newsroom as the 2020 election campaign begins and are investing in high-quality journalism. This editor will be a key management figure involved in all aspects of hiring and planning our coverage.
