The Washington Examiner seeks an ambitious and hard-charging reporter to cover defense and military affairs. Based in our D.C. office but also working from the Pentagon and Capitol Hill, this reporter will produce both breaking news and enterprise pieces for the Washington Examiner’s website and weekly print magazine on the inner workings of power, politics, and policy and the people who make them possible. The ideal candidate is as comfortable explaining security and strategy as telling the stories of those serving in uniform. Taking our readers inside military culture and the world of veterans is a crucial part of the beat. We are looking for someone with at least two years of experience covering defense as well as a track record of meeting deadlines and demonstrating excellent reporting and writing skills while covering this beat and generating scoops. A commitment to high-impact, straight news and an eye for a story and an interest in real people is essential. The Washington Examiner is driving record traffic to its website — we want you to help drive more — and is an exciting and vibrant place to work. We are expanding our newsroom and investing in high-quality journalism.
