We're looking for an education reporter capable of producing compelling digital coverage of local primary and secondary schools and issues of importance to educators, parents and taxpayers for the Akron Beacon Journal/

The Beacon Journal/ education writer will cover stories of regional and national interest, including Akron City Schools' efforts to launch "career academies" across all high schools and the evolution of the I Promise School, a partnership with the LeBron James Family Foundation that is being studied as a national model by communities across the country.

Our reporters are expected to be self-starters capable of generating daily and enterprise story ideas on their assigned beat, acting with urgency for breaking news and providing text and video content for digital and print publication. Examples of work should show well-developed reporting and writing skills, as well as the ability to shoot video and engage readers via social media. Must be comfortable using Facebook and Twitter to connect with readers. Must have a strong knowledge of AP style. Significant professional experience preferred.
