Newsweek is hiring a deputy editor for its politics team!


This role will be focused on digital side of Newsweek, although there will likely be opportunities to work on developing and editing stories for the magazine. The job will based out of Newsweek’s headquarters in New York City. Here’s what we’re looking for in an ideal candidate:


-Voracious devourer of the news—someone who comes in each morning knowing what’s happening in the world of politics and is able to keep on top of developments during the day while juggling editing and writing.


-Knack for being able to succinctly tell a reader what the story is and why they should care about it


-Skill in spotting a unique way into the story that helps set our story apart from the likes of the AP and The New York Times.


-Ability to edit a large amount of copy (10+ stories) each day.


-Able to edit breaking stories quickly and diligently as well as help writers craft and fine-tune more in-depth stories.


-A willingness and ability to write quick news hits in breaks between editing.


-Skilled at writing sharable headlines that get to the heart of a story and why the reader should care.
