The Los Angeles Times is looking for reporters to go on the trail, break news, analyze and scrub candidates, examine policy ideas, talk with voters, write rich narratives and explain what’s going on in this country as the 2020 presidential campaign unfolds over the next two years.

Our campaign coverage will be driven by issues of high interest in California, including the environment, immigration, race, income inequality, data security and privacy, international relations, including trade and tariffs. We will bring particular focus and authority to stories about Sen. Kamala Harris and other Californians in the race, the money being poured into the campaign, and the integrity of the voting and campaigning in the new cyber world.

Candidates should have strong reporting and digital skills and at least five years’ experience. Previous experience in political reporting is a plus, and we are looking for generalists as well as specialists in topics that are likely to be front and center in the campaign.

We will also, at some point, be adding an editor to the team, so we’d invite those interested in an editing role to apply now as well.

These positions will be classified as Reporter and Assistant Editor in the Los Angeles Times Guild.

Reporters and editors in L.A. interested in joining the campaign team should contact Campaign 2020 editor Millie Quan, For D.C., contact Washington bureau chief David Lauter,
