SUMMARY:

The Associate Editor develops and manages content for Hart Energy's upstream products, with particular focus on E&P magazine and associated special products and supplements. The position works under the direction of senior staff. The position requires business journalism experience, a deep interest in the oil and gas industry, and excellent writing and editing skills.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Assists senior editors with all phases of the production of E&P franchise-related products, including the monthly magazine, supplements and show dailies.
  • Learns and maintains Hart Energy and AP style and standards.
  • Copy edits, proofreads and reviews content for the magazine and special projects.
  • Writes assigned articles, which can include research and interviews.
  • Writes special project content.
  • Contacts contributors and guides article content as requested by senior staff.
  • Participates at company-sponsored conferences as needed, including onsite moderating and session coverage for the generation of online content.
  • Travels to events outside of home office, including field assignments as specified by senior staff. Attends professional and social events relevant to the publication's content and audience.  

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor Degree (B.A. or B.S.) in English, journalism, or related field and at least three years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously, meet deadlines and handle work-related stress.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include weekends and holidays.
  • Must be able to establish and maintain a professional atmosphere for employees, clients and customers.
