The Herald & Review is hiring a fast-moving, incisive journalist to cover politics and government in Central Illinois.

This reporter will cover municipal government in Decatur, as well as issues at the state level in Springfield.  At the heart of this job is making the actions of government relevant to our audience using a mix of storytelling forms, from quick-turn hot takes on new developments to thoughtful analysis pieces to long-form impact and investigative projects told in innovative ways.

A background in data journalism and public records is critical, as is an aggressive, competitive spirit to be the best.  This reporter will own the beat, have a robust presence on social media and take part in podcasts, Facebook Live and broadcast appearances, as well as outreach events.

The Herald & Review is proud of our watchdog focus and solutions-oriented agenda.  We value meaningful and memorable enterprise journalism that focuses on the voices of real people, has a sense of place and starts conversations.  We like big ideas and seeing big possibilities.

This is an exciting time in our region.  We have a busy municipal election ahead and a new governor coming into office.  There is no shortage of juicy topics to explore and stories to write.

The Herald & Review and Lee Enterprises, Inc. are an equal opportunity employer.
