The PLS Reporter is seeking an experienced journalist to cover the inside workings of Pennsylvania state government and politics, with an emphasis on the legislative process and current issues. Candidate must be someone who embraces the thrill and challenge of covering a 253-member full-time General Assembly, covering the major storylines while also digging up untold stories for a detail oriented audience.

The ideal candidate should be able to turn over 4-5 stories a week, from press conferences and committee meetings to enterprise stories that get into the weeds of governance to setting up one-on-one meetings with political power brokers to chasing down sources in capitol hallways. The ideal candidate will find the role active and exciting.

Candidates should possess sound news judgment, strong writing skills, experience covering a legislative body, the ability to work in a deadline oriented digital-first environment and possess a passion for storytelling. Knowledge of Pennsylvania issues is a plus.

Hours are typically 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday with hours and dates varying with the legislative session schedule. Position is based in Harrisburg with occasional travel throughout Pennsylvania.
